Cornwall’s former Fifteen restaurant at Watergate Bay reopens for the summer
One of Cornwall’s favourite chefs is set to pop-up on a north Cornwall beach with a new lockdown-friendly restaurant at the former Fifteen restaurant overlooking Watergate Bay.
Emily Scott has built an impressive reputation heading the kitchen at St Tudy Inn and will move to the ill-fated Fifteen which closed earlier in December after more than a decade.
This summer, together with her partner, Bordeaux winemaker Mark Hellyar, she takes over the large building that previously housed Fifteen Cornwall, offering relaxed dining with the safety of social distancing, overlooking the beach below.
Emily’s relaxed ‘hyper-local’ cuisine is built on an appreciation for the natural world and a meticulous search for the highest quality local ingredients, providing the perfect flavour for our times. Many have adjusted to a stripped back, slower, more gentle way of life; now they can bring this attentive attitude back into the world, gathering once again for the simple pleasures of swapping stories together while eating great food.
Says Emily: “My own story began with warm memories of a childhood in Provence with my grandfather, Papa, collecting strawberries from the fields to the hum of crickets in the hot sun. It then slowly winds its way through Cornish country lanes to its beautiful golden sandy beaches.
I translate this experience through turning locally-sourced ingredients into delicious, rustic dishes that are so deceptively simple you can even recreate them at home. No faff, no fuss. Just beautiful seasonal food, people coming together round the table, and a summertime we’ll never forget – for all the right reasons.”
Emil Scott Food launches in the midst of what has been a spectacular summer of weather so far and is well placed for savouring long summer days and evenings on the beach. The restaurant will be open Tuesdays to Saturdays, for lunch and supper.
