Calling all seafood aficionados! We pick 8 of the best restaurants for a fish supper in St Ives

Seafood Café

As its moniker suggests, the Seafood Cafe is a go-to destination for a fish supper in St Ives. The cafe has a different take on traditional restaurant dining as it features a large cabinet of fish on display. Choices include hake, Newlyn cod, bream, grilled haddock, seabass, swordfish and more.

Take your pick from potatoes, salad and vegetables on the side. Finally, choose a sauce to go with your fish and your personalised meal will be freshly prepared and brought over to you to enjoy.

The Mermaid

The Mermaid can be found in the appropriately named Fish Street in the old fishing quarters of St Ives and it is renowned for its extensive menu of seafood. It's almost impossible to choose between fish platters, seafood pots, tiger prawn curries, scallops and even the trusty old fish and chips - we wish we could have it all.

The restaurant has a nautical décor with fishing nets hanging from the ceilings and pictures of old fishing boats and their owners hanging on the walls.

The Cellar Bistro

This Parisian-chic restaurant is one of the most romantic in St Ives with its rouge red walls and candlelit tables. On the menu is herb crusted hake, crispy sea bass fillets, tender calamari alongside classic dishes such as chicken supreme and sirloin steak.

Complete your meal with a digestif from the 'After Dinner' cocktail menu. We like the sound of the Latte Martini with Baileys, vodka and sweet espresso.

Porthminster Kitchen

For seafood with a sea view, take a break from the crowds and hide away with good food, great wine and even better company on the sun-trapped terrace of the Porthminster Kitchen.

Serving only the finest fish from local water, the list of fishy suppers on the menu is endless. Expect big bowls of mussels and crab bouillabaisse, smoked fish chowder, scallops, seafood curry, fish pie, Cornish hake fillet and much more. The only difficulty of dining here is choosing what to have.

The Rum & Crab Shack

This quirky bar-cum-restaurant overlooks the bustling harbour of St Ives and there's plenty of tasty Cornish crab in the kitchen and rum behind the bar.

From hearty seafood sharing boards, to a whole section of the menu dedicated purely to crab and lobster, there's plenty to sate the appetite of any seafood fan. If you're lucky enough to grab a coveted window seat, you can enjoy supper with panoramic views across the bay to Gwithian sands and Godrevy lighthouse.

Porthminster Beach Café

Positioned overlooking the turquoise waters of Porthminster Beach, unsurprisingly, fish is the name of the game at the Porthminster Cafe. Take your pick from some of the finest bounty that the Cornish waters have to offer as the menu is dominated by dishes such as crab linguine, whole grilled lobster and monkfish curry.

Ingredients are sourced locally from St Ives, Newlyn, Looe and Mevagissey whilst the vegetables, herbs and salad are taken from the café's very own kitchen garden.

Porthgwidden Beach Café

Sister café and restaurant to Porthminster, Porthgwidden specialises in Mediterranean and Asian seafood cuisine. The restaurant overlooks Porthgwidden beach with plenty of seating outside for al fresco dining in the warmer months.

On the small yet enticing menu expect to find bowls of mussels with chorizo, St Ives mackerel fillet, Cornish fish pie and the catch of the day. It is the perfect spot to spend an evening dining on seafood and watching the sunset.

The Beach Club Restaurant at Carbis Bay

After a day spent on Carbis Bay beach head to the Beach Club restaurant for a fish supper with a generous helping of sea views. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with scallops, local mussels, King prawns, crispy squid, a fish grazing board and Chef's Fish Dish of the Day all on the menu.

In the summer, the decking outside is a relaxing spot to unwind with fish and chips and a glass of local wine - just watch out for those pesky gulls!
