Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards 2018: Pub of the Year

For the ‘Pub of the Year’, readers nominated establishments that offer exceptional food and drink including a wide range of locally brewed real ales. It also needed to have a menu which champions local food and provide a warm welcome to all
The Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.
These awards recognise our vital Somerset food and drink industry and give recognition to the producers, growers, suppliers and hospitality venues in our wonderful county.
Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Pub of the Year’, sponsored by Arthur David.
Candlelight Inn, Bishopswood
The Candlelight Inn was described by judges as a soft atmospheric pub with elegant touches of class, giving it a restaurant feel. The judges thought the food was very good value for money and the menu listed an abundance of excellent local ingredients. Judges were impressed that they distilled their own gin called Beau Gin alongside serving many other local beverages. There is no doubt in the effort that goes into running the pub and the judges enjoyed the special little touches this pub offers.
The Babbling Brook Inn, Shurton
The Babbling Brook Inn, can be found in Shurton, offering a clean and cosy atmosphere. Judges commented that the staff werevery friendly and knowledgably and the menu is varied and locally sourced. They too offer a wide selection of locally produced ales and soft drinks.

The Anchor Inn, located in Hillfarrrance, was described by the judges as serving very good food, local ales and ciders, with great service in a clean and friendly environment. Judges had high praise for the shortcrust pastry steak and kidney pie, stating it was the best they had ever had, better than their Nan made!!
