A team from Devon Life joined the Michelmores 17th corporate yacht race, which raised over 3,500 for local charities. A record entry of 63 boats crossed the start line but the beautifully hot and sunny day failed to produce the sort of winds competitive sailors long for. Only 24 finished the course because of the conditions but the race was memorable as usual and 500 crew members enjoyed the traditional after race party.

Jalapeno skippered by Nick Over of Wainhomes finished first in the Michelmores Challenge Cup (Division I), while the Michelmores Challenge Bowl (Division II) went to Fearnought, skippered by Matt Dodd for Daniel Churchill. Xcellent, skippered by Philip Rumbelow of Hills Quantity Surveyors achieved line honours and won the Michelmores Trophy under IRC rules, finishing half an hour ahead of the next yacht.

The non-sailing highlight of the day was the after race auction that raised 3,500 for the Dartmouth Lifeboat appeal and Brixham-based Grenville House Outdoor Education Centre.
