Burnley will be awash with sights, sounds and colours this October as the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic is set to be performed by the young stars at Basics Junior Theatre School.

As another year passes us by, another pool of young, talented stars progress from Basics Junior Theatre School to further their careers at some of the country’s most prestigious drama and theatre schools. Still, the conveyor belt continues to produce the next batch of future stars and they will be showcasing their talents in one of the most famous musicals ever written, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The theatre school is investing over £24,000 into the Production that promises to be a truly amazing show for all the family to enjoy. In their 29 year history, they have only ever had two young performers portray the role of Joseph. One of those actors was Andrew Derbyshire who went on to play the role professionally for three years on the West End. The other was Richard Sanderson who is taking directorial duties on this show.

Two very talented young actors will be playing huge parts in the show. Oliver Driver, who has only recently turned 15, will be playing the role of Joseph and Jess McGlinchey is playing the role of the narrator in her last show with Basics before she heads off to Drama School.

Usually accustomed to performing close to the Christmas break, the theatre school have decided to move this year’s performance dates to October to try and get more people to see the show. Principal Andy Cooke said “We felt that with the show being so close to Christmas, it wasn’t selling as many tickets as we’d hoped, so we decided to move it to October.” He added: “Our students have had 12 weeks less to rehearse this year due to moving the show, so the pressure is on. We are ready for a very colourful show. We are honoured to announce that we have welcomed back our founder Sally Murtaugh who has stepped in at the very last minute and will be heading our wardrobe team. The costumes are amazing and will be available for hire to schools and youth groups in the future.”

The show is on from Tuesday 13th October through to Saturday 17th October with a matinee performance in the afternoon on Saturday.

Tickets are on sale at The Hippodrome Theatre box office. The Box Office telephone number is 01282 863210. Or you can Book online : www.basicsjuniortheatre.co.uk
