A wellbeing teacher is helping primary school children across Devon with the stresses and strains of modern day life

Helen Wilson uses music, movement and storytelling to help equip children with the tools they need to cope in stressful situations. She says: “Over time I noticed how children’s behaviour is changing. Children and parents are living in a very challenging world; the speed of life is just so fast. I felt there was a need for children to slow down a bit and focus.”

Helen, who has been teaching in primary schools for more than 25 years, founded Positive World last year. Her sessions help children to better manage their anxiety, anger and impulsiveness. Helen explains: “It’s about equipping children with an emotional tool kit, so that they can manage their emotions themselves.”

Claire Baillie, headteacher at the Duchy School in Bradninch, says: “Since Helen has been working with the children, there has been a noticeable change in the children’s willingness to discuss their emotions, and to engage confidently in the classroom.”
