Cheshire ladies who love to be pampered have been spoilt for choice for a while.

But now that elegant Mottram Hall near Prestbury has enjoyed a multi-million pound makeover there is another ‘must visit’ spa to enjoy. I was lucky enough to be pampered, virtually from head to toe, and I recommend it.

This being Prestbury, several footballers’ wives and girlfriends have visited already, and they too thoroughly approve. Magali Gorré is a regular and invited her friends along to sample some of the treatments, including the new Bento Box lunch designed by executive chef Jim Key.

Magali, said:‘I’ve lived here 14 years and know it very well. It’s so different to my home city of Amsterdam, which is so crowded – Mottram is a complete escape.

‘I love the new spa, the personal service you get here and of course they have the newest machines. My husband (Dean) is a big fan too.’

She added: ‘I love it that while I may be relaxing having a treatment, my husband can play golf, the kids can play tennis, and if you want to end up in the pool together you can and it feels like you’re on a bit of a holiday.’

Even before I was through the door I was enjoying myself: the location is lovely. You approach along the tree-lined drive and golfers stroll leisurely around the lawns. Once inside, it’s stunning. The spa has really benefitted from the £6 million pound makeover and it now boasts seven indulgent treatment rooms offering a wide range of relaxing and rejuvenating treatments - for both men and women - using the finest beauty products, including Espa and Jessica. The pool and fitness rooms are fabulous.

I was met by Linda, a senior therapist, for my Advanced Enzyme Facial (85 minutes, £115) and an Espa Hot Stone Massage (55 minutes, £82). She made a brief assessment of my skin and general health to check that these were appropriate treatments for me.

They were, so I settled down to over two hours of cleansing, toning, moisturising, soothing, stroking and expert massaging. Boy! I could hardly stay awake: the whole experience was blissful and rejuvenating.

Afterwards, I chatted to some ladies in the relaxation room who are regulars. They praised the staff and said they are always made to feel like VIPs. So you don’t have to be a footballer’s wife to get the star treatment here.
