Chester is a city that has long had my heart, from weekends spent shopping with family, to peaceful afternoons wandering the walls, finding hidden parks and beautiful vistas. A walk along the riverfront, known locally as The Groves, is a firm favourite, then stopping for ice cream at Snugburys, crossing the suspension bridge to Handbridge and enjoying a quiet moment soaking in the sunshine at Edgar’s Field. From day to night, Chester oozes style and sophistication, and after my recent stay at The Chester Grosvenor and dinner at Arkle, I couldn’t love it more. My top tip is to ask for room 320, which commands a spectacular view of the Eastgate Clock and a private window seat from which to enjoy it.

As a champion of independent businesses through my work as founder of We Love Good Times, I feel passionately that Chester has something for everyone, and for any occasion. It’s so pretty with its cobbled streets and the Rows steeped in history. I especially enjoy our independent bars and restaurants, and one of my favourite things to do will always be drinking and dining al fresco with friends and family. Chester is a place where the city and the countryside meet seamlessly – a place to stop, breathe and enjoy the sunshine. My perfect day out would be a boat trip down the River Dee with ChesterBoat, sipping a glass of fizz and taking in the stunning green spaces and unspoilt Riviera.
