Created from the finest materials and infused with rare craftsmanship, one-of-a-kind pieces are the most exceptional creations from designers and atelier the world over.

Designed to transcend generations, bespoke pieces are the epitome of artistry, taking highly skilled artisans thousands of hours to compose. Luxury jeweller, Laings embraced this heritage when they were invited to create a one-of-a-kind surprise egg objet with long standing partner, Fabergé.

Great British Life:

Intertwining the unique characters of both Laings and Fabergé, the Fabergé x Laings Thistle Egg Objet is truly a work of art. Each step of the journey from its inception to final finishings has been infused with the spirit of both houses, coming together for a final piece that epitomises excellence. The Fabergé x Laings Thistle Egg Objet plays on the jeweller’s Scottish heritage, a navy guilloche enamel shell mirrors Laings classic blue colour and opens to reveal a hidden thistle surprise.

Chosen by Sir Walter Scott as the symbol for George IV’s visit to Scotland in 1822, the thistle has become a national emblem, encapsulating the country’s bravery and beauty. Presented on an 18ct yellow gold, black rhodium plated guilloché base, each thistle is hand-painted with green and purple enamel, taking its inspiration from nature. The egg is delicately mounted on a stand crafted from frosted rock crystal and features a responsibly mined Mozambican cabochon ruby from Gemfields.

Great British Life:

Crafted entirely by hand using time-honoured techniques, the creation of the unique egg objet was overseen by the supremely skilled Fabergé Workmaster, Dr Marcus Mohr, and their team of dedicated craftspeople. Always exploring new and innovative ways to bring historical craftsmanship into the 21st century, the Maison has a focus on the craft of guilloché enamelling.

Although the core processes of this art form have remained largely unchanged for 130 years, enamelling is a seemingly magical process that requires the utmost skill to complete. Powdered glass is bonded to a surface via heat of around 800 degrees centigrade. It is a delicate art, a few seconds too long and the piece will need to be restarted from scratch.

Great British Life:

Fabergé’s craftspeople have meticulously hand-painted the unique coloured enamelling powder onto each of its egg objets. It takes at least three layers and five firings in the kiln to create the desired translucent effect that best showcases the beauty of light reflections and the depth of detail that lies beneath.

The Fabergé x Laings Thistle Egg Objet is a part of the Heritage ‘In Bloom’ collection. Paying homage to the Maison’s rich heritage, the curated assembly fuses the iconic egg with the celebrated flower studies for which Peter Carl Fabergé was renowned. The Heritage ‘In Bloom’ collection encapsulates the beauty of nature and the past, present, and future of Fabergé, each piece destined to become a future heirloom, one cherished for generations to come.
