A WARRINGTON-born author has used his career as an art journalist for inspiration in his latest action-packed thriller novel released this month.
Guy Lawson, originally from Culcheth, has announced the exciting release of his new book A Small Bowler Hat, centred around an art gallery owner who is fighting to keep his gallery open as rivals plot to have it shut it down.
The former Culcheth Primary pupil spoke of what inspired him to write his third novel which was released this month.
"The inspiration for A Small Bowler Hat came from the various artists across the north west that I got to know in the 1980s, when I was a freelance arts journalist.
"The title is to do with a bowler hat owned by the comic actor, Stan Laurel who sends it to the book's main character, Brian Beatty, the owner of an art gallery and a big fan of silent comedy films."
Along with his previous novels; Late Venetian and The Art Lovers, published last year, Guy also released a guidebook to walks around waterways around the north west which was published back in 1990.
"The guidebook featured many areas of Warrington including Woolston, Lymm, Grappenhall, Thelwall and Walton Gardens," Guy said.
Born in Orford, the author went to school in Culcheth before attending Manchester Grammar School and then moving back to Warrington to live in Stockton Heath for a period of time.
He now is based in Cumbria and is preparing to release a fourth novel later this year too which has links to his hometown of Warrington he says.
"I have always been fascinated by Warrington's industrial heritage, especially its rivers and canals. While I refer to them in the guidebook I wrote, they are featured extensively in my fourth novel, The Sleeping Beauties, which is due out later this year."
