Take this easy route from Cremyll to Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, perfect for families with small children

Mount Edgcumbe is open daily and free of charge all year. A Grade I-listed country park of 865 acres, it has many miles of traffic-free paths ideal for children, plus an elegant mansion and formal gardens surrounded by extensive woods.

The views across Plymouth Sound, the Hamoaze and Cawsand Bay are superb. Recent selective tree clearance has opened some vistas that have been hidden for 150 years and 14 seats have been renovated to help visitors enjoy them. Winter, when the leaves are down, is particularly good. Keep quiet and watch for deers in the woods.

If you (or the kids) fancy a change, take the Cremyll Ferry, the oldest continuous running daily ferry in the world. It offers great views and runs regularly to Stonehouse, from where a five-minute walk leads to the historic Royal William Yard (1831)… and another ferry to Plymouth Barbican.
