Businesses in Lechlade, Fairford and South Cerney are set to join Gloucestershire’s faster broadband network as the rollout of fibre broadband across the county continues.
Work will begin in these areas late summer as part of the ‘Fastershire’ project, with the first customers being able to connect to the new network before Christmas. These communities are in addition to Cinderford, Coleford, Lydbrook, Longhope and Drybrook which were announced in March and where work is already under way. Councillor Mark Hawthorne, Leader of Gloucestershire County Council, says, “This is a big job, but we are making progress and it won’t be long before we start seeing fibre cables being laid, with the first customers being able to order in just a few months.”
The new network will take more than a million engineer hours to build, thousands of miles of fibre will be laid and hundres of new cabinets will be installed.
