Set on a beautiful 50-acre site near the centre of Cheltenham, Dean Close is a long-standing co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 3-18. Education across all three schools is as much about building character and relationships as it is about gaining knowledge, with the Christian heart of the School & its dedicated tutorial system creating a warm and friendly atmosphere amongst staff and pupils.

The School is renowned for focusing on individual development. Small classes, excellent learning facilities plus a 550-seater professional theatre, amphitheatre, dedicated music and art schools, floodlit astro-turfs, 25m indoor pool, climbing wall, indoor rifle range, dance studio and fully equipped gymnasium all help to nurture each child’s strengths and talents.

This year’s A level results were the second best ever with the proportion of exams graded A* /B fractionally below 80%, 18% of all grades at A*. GCSE candidates also achieved the School’s second best ever results with over 58% of grades at A*/A and a really impressive 28% at A*. Those who took Maths, RS and languages early did extraordinarily well, with 86% of grades at A/A* and 61% gaining an A*.

Dean Close has recently enjoyed huge successes at national level across a variety of disciplines, achieving a total of five National titles. For the first time, the School entered several chamber groups in the Pro Corda National Chamber Music Festival for Schools and three of them reached the finals; the equestrian team won the National Cross Country Schools Championship and the National Cross Country Championship 2012; the U16 boys hockey team won the National Final; the U16 netball team claimed a top 10 place in the country having reached the national finals following their dominance in the County and South West competitions; the School’s student publication, the Quad, won a National Award for one of its feature articles; the golf team won ISGA National Plate Final; a year 10 pupil came 2nd in the British Council Mandarin Speaking Competition having only been learning the language for ten months; a Sixth Form team came 2nd in the UK Senior Mathematics Team Challenge having participated in the final against 64 of the top schools in the country; and the senior debating team won their regional round of the European Youth Parliament competition at the Oxford University Union to progress to the National Finals. All this alongside the many and various daily activities across the schools, both academic and co-curricular.

With around 260 pupils in the Prep School and 480 in the Senior School, Dean Close is small enough to allow everyone to know one another, feel valued and get fully involved in the life of the School. However, it is large enough to have an extremely strong boarding community, vibrant and exciting creative arts, impressive academic results and great sports results across all ages.
