Tudor’s Farmhouse Market bangs the drum for local Forest of Dean bounty

Residents and visitors to the Forest of Dean enjoyed a glorious Sunday (on June 24) of gourmet treats and entertainment as Tudor Farmhouse Hotel launched its first Farmhouse Market.

Held in the grounds of the hotel in the village of Clearwell, the Farmhouse Market proved a real hit with visitors and stall holders alike, as all enjoyed a great day of food, drink and ‘fingers crossed’ fine weather.

The farmhouse market was free to attend and included live music from local band ‘Life of Riley’, a sizzling barbecue, local wine, cider and beer tasting, as well as food demonstrations from Kather's Kitchen and Harts Barn Cookery School.

Local food providers at the market included: Forage Fine Foods, Cowshill Farm and Native Breeds along with a range of Tudor Farmhouse branded goods. A range of local drinks were also on tap, with stalls from Kingstone Brewery, Tintern Parva Wines and Severn Cider.

In addition to the market, Liz Knight of Forage Fine Foods also ran a family foraging expedition in the grounds of the hotel. With over 14 acres of farmland to explore, the Hotel’s garden offered the perfect spot to help visitors identify commonly found, edible plants that could be easily found in their own back garden.

Commenting on the Farmhouse Market, Hari Fell, owner of Tudor Farmhouse Hotel says, “We have long been supporters of using locally sourced food and are lucky to have such great producers on our doorstep. The Farmhouse Market was a fantastic way to showcase our local food talent, and celebrate the fantastic produce from the Forest of Dean. It was such a fun event and we’ve received terrific feedback from both visitors and stall holders. This is definitely an event we hope to repeat again in the future, so watch this space!”

Stall holder and family forage organiser Liz Knight of Forage Fine Foods added, “The Farmhouse Market was a tremendous success. It was great to see so many ‘foodie’ inspired visitors seeking authentic Forest of Dean produce. The family forage was really popular and a great excuse to tour the beautiful grounds of Tudor Farmhouse Hotel. We certainly didn’t have to go far to find some delicious foraged ingredients, and hopefully I’ve converted a few more people to enjoy the forager’s lifestyle.”
