Points of interest on Katie B Morgan’s map of the Gloucestershire village of Snowshill

Perhaps most famous for its lavender fields and the manor house stuffed with Charles Paget Wade’s eclectic collection, the village of Snowshill is well worth a visit

Bronze Age hoard: A barrow just outside Snowshill was excavated in 1881, unearthing a picrite battle axe, bronze pin, dagger and spear head. These are now housed in the British Museum’s collection.

Snowshill Manor & Garden: This 16th-century National Trust property is best known for being the home of Charles Paget Wade in the 20th century. Charles Paget Wade – whose motto was ‘Let nothing perish’ – was an eccentric who amassed an enormous collection of objects from all over the globe, including Samurai armour, musical instruments, bicycles, furniture and toys. He gave the Manor and the eclectic collection to the National Trust in 1951.

Cotswold Lavender: Hill Barn Farm in Snowshill is home to over 40 different varieties, first planted in 1999. Now covering some 70 acres, the essence of the flowers is used in many products, from tea, chocolate and culinary essence, to toiletries and candles.

St Barnabas Church: Built in 1864, the Victorian church has a 15th-century font on the site of a much older church or chapel.

War memorial: Erected in 1923 and designed by the architect Frederick Landseer Maur Griggs and built by George and Albert Diston and John Coppinger.

Snowshill Arms: The pub dates back to 15th century, and may have been a brewery for the monks in Winchcombe.

Book: The 2001 movie Bridget Jones’s Diary, starring Renee Zellweger as a 30-something singleton, was partly filmed in Snowshill.
