THE legacy of a much-loved Stroud music teacher will be celebrated at a community festival raising money for Longfield Community Hospice this weekend.
Stars in the Park will take place at Longfield’s Burleigh Lane site in Minchinhampton from 1pm to 9pm on Sunday, August 30.
Organised by former pupils of Archway School teacher Ros Tyler, the event follows last year’s Stars: An Evening inspired by Ros Tyler, which raised more than £12,000 for the hospice that cared for her in her final days.
This year’s outdoor festival will feature a musical theatre proms by former Archway students, alongside live music into the evening, including sets from Mike d’Abo and several West End performers.
Stroud based Mike d’Abo is perhaps best known as the lead vocalist of Manfred Mann from 1966 to the group's dissolution in 1969, and as the composer of the songs Handbags and Gladrags, and Build Me Up Buttercup.
The event will also feature family activities, including a bouncy castle, face-painting and a magician, as well as food vans and a fully stocked bar.
Craig Mather, one of the organisers and a former Archway pupil who has since performed in the West End, said: “At its heart, Stars is about the community Ros gave us.
“A safe space where we could truly be ourselves.”
All profits will support Longfield Community Hospice, with match funding from Benefact Group set to increase the value of donations.
The event is also sponsored by Stroud Brewery.
Jane Dyer, Longfield’s head of fundraising and marketing, said she was 'absolutely delighted' the event would be held at the hospice’s Minchinhampton site.
“I attended last year and was so impressed with the standard of the event and the performances,” she said.
“I can’t wait to book my ticket and would encourage members of our community to book early as the tickets sold so fast last year.
“A huge thanks to Stars for choosing to show their love for Longfield.”
