Daytime
Go by train
Crediton has regular trains from Exeter and Barnstaple and the pretty station has been restored to the livery of the London and South Western Railway, which operated the line from the 1860s. Inside the station building is a tea room and craft shop
Crediton Museum
The museum has a permanent display about the history of the town and for 2017 is staging ‘Down on the Farm’ looking at farming life over the years. Check out the museum’s opening times at: creditonhistory.org.uk
Walking trail
Pick up a copy of the free leaflet and follow the Town Trail around some of the historic locations including the parish church, war memorial, old town hall and the statue of St Boniface, a Saxon missionary born in the town in 680AD
Evening
A friendly local pub with a reputation for serving well-kept beer. It specialises in traditionally brewed British cask ale served from hand pumps on the bar and has been praised by local CAMRA groups.
Arts centre
The Crediton Arts Centre in East Street plays a leading role in the Crediton Festival from Saturday 3 to Saturday 24 June. There’s music, dance, film and drama over three weeks.
Learn something
Classes and courses on offer at Crediton Art Centre include watercolour painting, Tai Chi and Wing Chun King Fu. Or try the book club that meets regularly at Sandford’s Lamb Inn.
Eating
Baobab Cafe
The excellent Baobab Cafe is dedicated to offering delicious, nutritious food for children and adults and to bringing families together to explore, enjoy and play. Look out for special themed events like the recent Uzbek night!
Festival
Now in its ninth year, the Crediton Food and Drink Festival on 17 & 18 June includes stalls, cookery demonstrations and musical entertainment and culminates in the fabulous Big Sunday Lunch. Find out more at creditonfoodfestival.co.uk
Tina King and Nicholas Hack run this Mediterranean restaurant on St Lawrence’s Green, which was a finalist in our 2016 Food and Drink Awards. Check out their courtyard for al fresco dining in summer.

GRAPE & GRAIN

A gem in the heart of the High Street, Crediton Community Bookshop is run with the help of a team of volunteers who are passionate about books and reading. creditoncommunitybookshop.co.uk
A fabulous little shop on the High Street that specialises in beautiful studio ceramics from contemporary makers and from the past. It opens on Fridays and Saturdays, but will also open by appointment.
