Volunteers from the A LA Ronde National Trust house in Exmouth continue to make striking knitted chickens, with all proceeds from their sale going directly to the chickens themselves.

A La Ronde is a grande 18th-century house located near Lympstone, Exmouth and is currently under the care of the National Trust.

Its unique 16-sided dimensions have led it to be described as having a magical strangeness and with its extraordinary interior design which is made up of the feathers of many species of birds; it’s no wonder that it attracts so many people every year.

Feathers are more than just a big part of A La Ronde’s décor, they also keep alive the tradition of poultry preservation. A La Ronde prides itself on its hen rescue program, which sees its chickens royally treated to a life on grass and sheltered in new hen houses. They are also the inspiration behind a group of volunteers, who have created a knitted flock of rescue hens, complete with colourful outfits to keep them warm whilst they’re waiting for their feathers to grow back.

These prize creations will be for sale in the A La Ronde gift shop, with all proceeds going directly into the funding for food and warm bedding for the hens, completely separate of any other funding. A worth while cause and a great little gift to yourself.
