Knightstone Manor enjoys a peaceful rural location in the beautiful Otter Valley just outside the historic town of Ottery St Mary and close to edge of the East Devon AONB.

Ottery St Mary is an attractive and popular small town with an excellent range of local shops, The King’s School, and local amenities. The cathedral city of Exeter is about 15 miles away along the A30 dual carriageway.

To the south of Knightstone Manor the coast is renowned for its natural beauty and picturesque beaches and coastal walks, notably at Sidmouth (5½ miles away) and Branscombe (10 miles).

The original Knightstone Manor was built by Thomas de Bittlesgate in 1380 and has subsequently undergone several remodellings over its nearly 700 year history, most recently the meticulous restoration undertaken by the current owner in the early 2000s. There are fascinating glimpses of life over the seven centuries it has seen, but the house now makes a thoroughly practical home for modern living. The cross-passage hall and Great Hall divide the north and south wings, making one wing perfect for family use and the other wing offering rooms for guests and entertaining.

The stunning gardens were developed in their current form in the early 20th century and cleverly set off the house with a formal framework of yew hedge-bound outdoor rooms embellished with colourful plantings. They form the centrepiece of the grounds which extend on to streamside parkland, a wildflower meadow and paddocks extending to 18 acres in all.

In addition to the house the property is supported by an extensive range of estate outbuildings including four spacious garages, secure storage, estate office and a very well appointed three bedroom detached cottage.
