Choosing the perfect frames for your windows and doors can make a huge difference to the look and feel of your home.

Here to share his knowledge and expertise on making the right choice, we catch up with Max Lowles, director of A D S Windows and Doors in Ivybridge, Devon.

“We are an honest and upfront business offering a transparent service without high pressure salesmen, artificially inflated prices and dramatic discounts,” Max tells us. “We simply offer the best price, first time. The team are always looking for new innovations and products industry – and when we were introduced to the bespoke Scandinavian models of RATIONEL and VELFAC, we were impressed by the quality and detail.

“You must be an approved installer to sell these designs – they are very selective and only accept certain companies to promote their products, so we are incredibly proud to be offering them to our customers. All our staff are fully trained in sales, installation and servicing of these windows and doors, so our customers are always in safe hands.”

Below, he shares five benefits of opting for a bespoke design to transform your space and why it’s important to be selective when choosing a company to install them.

A variety of designs to suit your personal style

We have many options of modern and more traditional designs available for our customers to browse, and our Scandinavian models Rationel and Velfac are particularly popular.

The wood used is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, meaning that it has been responsible sourced and meets their high standards, promising a quality product that’s guaranteed to last.

Velfac

If you’re looking for a sleek, modern and minimalist design, then Velfac is perfect for what you’re looking for. It’s a composite window with slim sightlines, aluminium clads on the outside and wood on the inside. These models are renowned amongst architects for their quality and contemporary styling as the sightlines look the same on each panel.

Velfac frames also allow for up to 50 per cent more natural light into your home than average designs, which creates a more open and brighter space.

Rationel

This is a naturally beautiful design made bespoke to your requirements from responsibly sourced timber to promote sustainable living. The Rationel range comes in two signature styles: the Rationel AURA and the Rationel FORMA.

The Rational AURA is our most popular profile, created with either a natural wood or painted finish. The key feature is its stunning timber frame. The Rationel FORMA offers a less contemporary design, suitable for country residences or those with a more traditonal, rural-esque décor style.

Tailor-made, customisable products

A great benefit of tailor-made products is the freedom to customise the look of your space. You can opt for different colours on the outside and the inside of your home, which is becoming increasingly sought after, particularly for doors where you want a darker outside but a brighter inside colour to match the interior of the space.

A D S offer standard colour options as well as bespoke colours which can be created just for you. There are over 200 colour options and the finishes are completely down to you too – whether you prefer a gloss or a matte finish, either are available in any colour.

All our windows and doors can be double-glazed or triple-glazed depending on the customer’s desire. The Rationel designs can be customised with various opening and closing functions too, and you also have the option to choose the size, shape and handle function to suit your taste and needs.

Long-lasting, durable designs

These windows are for life – they are well put together, practically maintenance-free and come with a 12-year warranty, which provides a guarantee for our customers. The timber frames of both Rationel and Velfac offer a 60-year life expectancy, but with the improved durability of the FORMAPLUS and AURAPLUS designs, the life expectancy is increased to around 80 years.

Better insulation and sound reduction

The triple and double-glazed options for our designs offer excellent U-values (the indication scale of how thermally efficient a product is). The lower the value, the better the heat insulation – and our triple-glazed windows reduce it down to 0.79 with a sound reduction of 42 decibels, which we are incredibly proud of.

Rationel doors are created with durable, high-quality materials that are thermally efficient. They also have excellent acoustic properties, making them suitable for a wide range of projects. Along with their light-maximising properties, the glass panes in the Velfac models are separated by a cavity which is filled with argon, improving the insulation of any room and keeping you warm all year-round. The retrospective insulations of the Rational FORMA styles are sympathetic with cottage properties and have improved thermal efficiency to accommodate.

Our solar glass comes in all our designs and creates a comfortable temperature in most rooms, particularly those that are south-west facing, so you don’t get too hot in the summer.

Improved security for your home

If the security of your home is a concern for you, then don’t worry. We offer the option for customers to tailor their windows and doors to suit their needs.

Our installers can fit laminate glass (as opposed to normal glass for regular designs), which is a plastic film that is manufactured in between the glass. This greatly improves the durability and thickness of the glass to assure customers that their homes are safe.
