Becky Clarke, from Wrightington, has spent the last three years working for her family business Clarke and Pulman. Since they branched out into country lifestyle wear last year, she has run Rufford’s Country Store
Who or what has been the biggest influence on your business?
Rufford's Country Store is a family-run business plus a sister company of our agricultural partner Clarke and Pulman which was established in 2003 by my dad. Therefore, family has always been my biggest influence. People say you can't choose your family, but I honestly feel like I did. We are capable of both living and working together in harmony and most families will agree that can be difficult.
Which major national or international brand do you admire and why?
I have great admiration for the brand Holland Cooper and how it has grown in the industry. The business was only established in 2008 and is now recognised as one of the leading British brands to offer contemporary tailoring in Scottish tweed. Jade Holland Cooper established the company at only 21-years-old and she is a great inspiration for any young entrepreneur.
When you get to go out for lunch where in Lancashire do you head?
You can never beat your own local pub! The Corner House, which is a stone's throw away from where we live always offers a wide range of specialities. Their roast chicken with dauphinoise potatoes and seasonal veg is always a good pub lunch.
If you weren't earning your living doing this, what would be your dream job?
From being young my dream job was to be a primary school teacher. I have always enjoyed being around children and I knew it would have been a good career choice.
What do you do on a weekend off?
As most people who work in retail know, weekends off don't come around that often. However, when they do, there is nothing more I enjoy the riding my horses Jaguar and Timmy, two geldings I have had from a young age. I compete in show jumping events around the North West and having a livery yard at home means I am never far away from horses.
What's your favourite holiday location?
I have spent a lot of time in sunny Portugal holidaying with family and friends however for my 21st birthday my mum took me to New York and I loved it. I am a country girl who loves the great outdoors but the buzz of New York city centre showed I can enjoy both types of holiday.
What's your favourite film and why?
Chick flicks never disappoint in my eyes and PS I Love You is the Queen of all chick flicks. It has everything you could want, romance, laughter, tears. Plus, it boils down to how you can still make something of yourself when you're at a low point in your life.
