BMW dealership, Bowker in Blackburn and Preston (www.bowkerbmw.com) is providing current UK number one-ranked pole vaulter 22 year-old Max Eaves with a new BMW X1 and 20 year-old swimmer Daniel Sliwinski from Penwortham with a new BMW 1-Series Coupe.

Last year, Max won bronze at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi with a jump of 5.40m. And in February this year, Max set a personal best jump of 5.61m to win the Aviva UK Indoor Trials and Championship in Sheffield, ranking him as British number one.

Daniel hopes to compete in the breaststroke in London next year. He is the fastest ever Briton in the 100m breaststroke, and current nationalchampion of the 50m and 100m disciplines after success at the SheffieldASA championships. Last year, Daniel won the bronze medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the 4x100 medley relay.

As part of the agreement, Bowker hopes that both Daniel and Max will inspire local sports men and women in Lancashire through community-focused events. They have both agreed to complete a series of exclusive video interviews which will be published on the Bowker YouTube channelwww.youtube.com/bowkerbmw

For Bowker Blackburn, managing director Chris Eccles said, ‘We wanted to help to make a local sports person’s London 2012 dream become a reality.

Everyone appreciates how training to become one of the best in the world at any sport takes time, energy, dedication and – of course – money. We want to share in Max’s dream and hopefully lessen the financial burden a little.

For Bowker Preston, Tom Fox added, ‘We believe both Max and Daniel have a great chance of competing and we think it would be wonderful for young local sports stars to share in as much success as possible in this historic championships.’

Max said, ‘I’m very grateful for Bowker’s support. Transport-wise, beinga pole vaulter, I need a car, and that always needs to be self-funded, which can be difficult at times. If you’re a sprinter you can just pick up your spikes and hop on a train if you need to!

I need to lug poles around and it’s nice of Bowker to help me out with that.

‘Like many other UK athletes, I need to work part-time to fund my athletics.

It would be nice at some stage this year to make the move to become a full-time athlete and have time to do the extra things that could make all the difference.’

Daniel said, ‘Sponsorship is massively important. Trying to become a world class swimmer can be an expensive business. Finding the finances can be stressful. Something as mundane as car insurance can end up costing several thousands of pounds for someone quite young like me.

‘Bowker’s support is very much appreciated. It takes a little pressure off and means I can concentrate more on my training, relax a little more andhopefully perform much better.

It all has a continuing effect.’ Bowker’s support for the athletes builds on the dealership’s tradition for supporting many sports throughout the region including football, cricket, cycling and wakeboarding.
