Bordering North Yorkshire, Cumbria and the coast, North Lancashire provides a masterclass in stunning scenery. Whether you want Sunday walks in the woods or sunsets over Morecambe Bay, there’s wildlife and wonder at every turn. Characterful villages abound, like Wray with its annual scarecrow festival and Hornby with its own private castle.
There are beautiful homes to be found on windswept moors and by hidden coves and caves, as well as amidst the bustling culture and history of thriving towns and cities like Garstang, Carnforth and Lancaster. We turned to three local specialists to highlight a trio of the region’s most coveted addresses.
Woodlands Drive, Silverdale, LA5
Village life with coastal views
Silverdale offers all the charm and warmth of village life while still having easy access to major transport networks for those commuting across the North West and beyond. While Woodlands Drive isn’t Silverdale’s closest street to the beach, it offers sloping panoramic views over the village to the sea. It’s also just a stone’s throw from the village pub. Houses tend to sell quickly here, commanding comparatively high values even when in need of renovation.
Silverdale is well known for its varied walks and plentiful local nature reserves.
AGENT INSIGHT: ‘Woodlands Drive sits in Silverdale, a highly desirable spot thanks to its location in the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It offers peaceful woodland and coastal walks, panoramic views across Morecambe Bay, wildlife-rich nature reserves, and strong transport links via rail and road’ says Matt Constantine from Hackney and Leigh.
Aldcliffe Hall Drive, Lancaster, LA1
Private and peaceful prestige
Aldcliffe Hall Drive is a leafy road embedded in the quiet of the countryside, which used to lead to a historic hall, since demolished. This quiet road enjoys peace and privacy, yet sits close to all the benefits of Lancashire’s ‘county capital’. It is within easy reach of the castle, train station, museums, university, theatres, independent shops and restaurants Lancaster is so well known for. This combination of tranquillity and accessibility — a village atmosphere without isolation — is what makes Aldcliffe such a coveted place to call home.
AGENT INSIGHT: 'Aldcliffe is one of the most affluent areas of Lancaster. The private road, Aldcliffe Hall Drive, reflects this area's desirability with numerous large, detached houses achieving premium property values. It came as little surprise that our recent listing, Beech Tree House, was under offer within a week' says Robert Menzies of Lune Valley Estates.
Yealand Road, Carnforth, LA5
Yealand Road runs through Yealand Conyers, a peaceful and picturesque village with a thriving community and a welcoming atmosphere. The village is well served by its own primary school and highly regarded local pub, The New Inn.
It’s also within easy reach of the RSPB Nature Reserve of Leighton Moss, well known for its bitterns.
The nearby A6 provides links to Carnforth and its nostalgically cinematic station, as well as Lancaster and Kendal, while the M6 is just a short drive away.
So, while the village itself may be scenic and rural, it is undeniably well connected.
‘Yealand Conyers is a highly desirable area, set within the Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape and offering panoramic views of the Lakes, Dales and Forest of Bowland. Its distinctive linear village layout, limestone ridge and mature trees create a tranquil, scenic setting that feels both historic and beautifully unspoiled’ says Rachael Wood from Armistead Barnett.
