Plymouth City Council are a few months away from the opening of their new crematorium, The Park, which will deliver an up-to-date facility for the bereaved families of Plymouth.

The Park will have three ceremony rooms, Ceremony Room 1 will have seating capacity for 120, Ceremony Room 2 will have seating capacity for 80, both will have additional standing space within the rooms and screens outside if the ceremony rooms are full to capacity.

There will also be a smaller Ceremony Room available, which will offer a more intimate funeral with capacity for 12.

All the ceremony rooms will have modular furniture and moveable seating for accessibility for all. Modern lighting technology will be available in Ceremony Rooms 1 and 2 which will offer families customisable lighting.

There will also be state-of-the-art lighting technology in ceremony rooms one and two, that will deliver a colour wash facility so that families can light a wall in the deceased’s favourite colour, so for example Plymouth Argyle Green.

We will be the first crematorium in the country offering this technology.

There will be a new reception and admin area for families to meet our staff in a comfortable area.

The Park will also have a public café and two functions rooms, with a bar that will be available for families to hire for wakes, memorialisation events or other family functions.

All of these building are set in a calm and peaceful setting with wildflower meadows, an arboretum area, a memorial wall and Book of Remembrance room as well as a defined children’s memorial area. All of these areas will have memorials installed ready for opening, so that families can remember loved ones.

The Park will replace the ageing crematoria at Efford and Weston Mill which is over 20 years old. Efford and Weston Mill will remain open as cemeteries for burials and other interments, and families will still be able to purchase memorialisation items such as roses and sanctum vaults.
