A Somerset restaurant has ranked inside the top 50 best in the UK list at the National Restaurant Awards 2023.

Osip in Bruton featured in 24th place on the list, which demonstrated a huge swing in positions from its 65th ranking last year, and was the county's only representative inside the top 100.

The top 100 as well as winners of other prizes were announced on Monday, June 12 at a ceremony held at The Hurlingham Club in London by Restaurant.

James Healey, UK Head of On-Trade for Estrella Damm, said: “Estrella Damm has always been proud to support the National Restaurant Awards and each year we are amazed at the array of incredible talent, who are all fully deserving of this recognition of being the very best in the UK.

"We are honoured to share our passion for brewing with the best restaurants in the UK, who also clearly share our devotion to quality and taste in all that they do. We hope this list encourages everyone to get out and support each and every one of these restaurants and join us in celebrating the success of the industry.”

The top 100 list can be found on the National Restaurant Awards website here.

What did the awards say about Osip?

The awards praised the work of chef Merlin Labron-Johnson for firmly establishing Osip as "one of the best places to eat in the county", and it has also been well-received on Tripadvisor with a rating of 4.5/5.

His close links with local suppliers were another point of commendation which allowed the restaurant to "champion the very best of local, seasonal produce".

They added: "As a result, no menu is presented to guests on arrival with dishes dictated by what the restaurant has been able to get its hands on that day.

"A meal will feature snacks and freshly baked bread with mains and a dessert and might include house charcuterie; egg ravioli with wild garlic; and brioche baked in herbs served with hedgerow butter."

The local links extend to its drinks selections as well, with ciders sourced from local farms and wins found through "sustainably-minded winemakers".
