The much-loved West Sussex festival returns this month. Friends and supporters gathered at Arundel Castle to find out what treats lie in store

This year’s Arundel Festival runs from 16 -25 August. Last month’s festival launch sponsored by Jackson Stops and Staff was hosted with kind permission of the Duke of Norfolk at the enchanting Collector Earl’s Garden, Arundel. Guests were treated to the delectable bites from South Downs Catering amidst a beautiful summer’s evening. Mischief was present with examples of street entertainers, Bubbles the Pixie and the laughing nine foot PC Short. The programme of events for this year’s festival promises music, drama and art for all (see preview on page 89). In this centenary year, the town reflects on WW1 in a variety of ways: in an art-led school community project of poppies in conjunction with the Gallery Trail organisers; in the drama around town; Words and Music in private houses; the Museum Living History day and an eagerly-awaited audience with Michael Morpurgo at the Arundel Castle Cricket Club.

Chairman Ash Kent adds: “This year we have built on Arundel Festival favourites such as the Gallery Trail, Theatre Trail, Festival Bath Tub Race and the fireworks. The town will be transformed in August. We have some spectacular music from here and abroad. We are grateful to the continued support of local businesses and sponsors that we can bring quality events for everyone to enjoy.”
