75 Year Old Betty Jumps 15,000ft for Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF)

Fearless Betty Bone recently took on the challenge of a 15,000ft skydive, despite celebrating her 75th birthday this year. After a few cancellations due to the recent poor weather Betty finally jumped on Tuesday 24th July when a glorious morning allowed her to make the most of the views across to both the North and South Devon coastlines.

Betty, not wanting to jump on her own, persuaded her friend Nick Moon, a teacher at Exeter School to join her. Betty and Nick, both from Poughill near Crediton, took on the challenge in order to help raise vital funds for local charity Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF).

Betty has been a regular patient at the Haematology Centre for the past 12 years and wanted to raise money for ELF to say thank you for the support they offer to patients at the Haematology Centre who are being treated for leukaemia, lymphoma and other blood conditions.

Betty says “I did the the Jump on Tuesday 24th July and it was amazing and exhilarating, though frightening at times! I have raised 1,250.00 and counting and Nick has also raised a fantastic amount. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for their support and encouragement.”

Sarah Shaw, Fundraising Manager at ELF says “Betty and Nick have done a fantastic thing for ELF. I think there were a few understandable nerves on the day but they are braver than I am and ELF cannot thank them enough for their support.”

ELF annually hold a skydiving day, in partnership with Skydive UK, at Dunkerswell airfield, near Honiton. If you fancy challenging yourself to an exhilarating one minute freefall from 15,000ft on 21st June next year then contact ELF today on 01392 493344 or enquire@elfcharity.org.uk
