The show in Plymouth will support St Luke’s Hospice and Livewire Youth
Eleven artists have come together to stage a collective charity exhibition in Devon. Into The Light will open in Plymouth from 3 October, showcasing original work by the artists. The event aims to raise proceeds for two local charities, St Lukes Hospice in Plymouth and Livewire Youth, a youth support charity in Saltash.
The show will boast an eclectic mix of original artworks, with each artist bringing a unique and individual style of work.Many of the artists had planned exhibitions cancelled due to the Covid 19 crisis and many exhibition venues are still closed to shows.
Organisers were fortunate to find a suitable venue at the city’s Faraday Trade Park to accommodate a collective show and felt it only right to support local charities also affected by the crisis.
The exhibition is being organised by two local artists - acrylic and mixed media painter Shirley Kirkcaldy and textile artist Jackie Gale.
Bringing a group of professional artists together for an event such as this has been a vision of theirs for some time and when their own joint exhibition was cancelled, the opportunity to realise their vision, presented itself.
Jackie says: “Most artists work alone and as much as an artist often desires solitude to create, one can easily feel detached from the creative community and a support network isn’t often easily accessible.
“Covid lockdown certainly intensified this feeling for many, especially when visiting framers and galleries; artists often use this time to network, share ideas and have social contact with fellow professionals.
“As a group we are in regular contact, all sharing ideas and working towards a common goal. For many, motivation has been re-ignited, new work is in progress and there is a clear feeling of excitement throughout the team.”
The organisers hope to raise as much money as possible for the two charities. There will be a raffle of artworks by each artist, including original pieces.
They say: “We are so excited about this and are very grateful to our sponsor, Artframe Solution. The owner, Sean James, is very enthusiastic about the show and is looking forward to welcoming visitors to the exhibition. There will be an artist in attendance each day and possibly live demonstrations too!”
The artists featured in the exhibition are: Kate Barker, Jo Beer, Emma Carter-Bromfield, Jenny Evans, Jackie Gale, Nigel Grist, Tony Henderson, Michael Hill, Shirly Kircaldy, Daphne Leeworthy and Nicola White.
Into The Light runs from 3 to 18 October at Airframe Solution, Unit 360-362, Faraday Trade Park, Cattewater Road, Plymouth PL4 0SP. Opening hours are 10am to 4pm Monday to Sunday. On Thursdays the exhibition will stay open until 7pm.
