Even the sun was shining when 260 guests gathered at Hazlegrove School, Sparkford, for a May 4th Star Wars Fundraising Ball.

Galactic characters of every kind turned up for the party.

Inside the large marquee colourful planets twirled in a star-lit ceiling, silver moon rocks decorated the tables, wine coolers glowed neon mauve, Chewbacca was seen manning the disco, while Obi-Wan Kenobi, R2D2 and Darth Maul mingled freely with guests in a shimmering crowd of predominantly silver and black outfits.

A grand auction was conducted by charismatic Nigel Wilson-Brown, chaplain of Kings School Bruton.

All auction lots attracted generous bidding, so too did the glittering selection of silent auction and raffle prizes.

In total, more than £30,000 was raised and these funds will be donated to two important causes; Yeovil Hospital’s new Baby Care Unit Appeal and an outdoor educational area for Hazlegrove’s new Teaching and Learning Centre.
