An adventure photography workshop will help budding photographers capture a different side to Dartmoor
“Dartmoor is more than just rolling hills and an endless landscape,” says equestrian and adventure photographer Malcolm Snelgrove.
The former IT executive told Devon Life more about how he captured the images published here of mountain biking and rock climbing.
Describing the striking image of a racing mountain bike, which was taken at Dewerstone rocks on a crisp autumn afternoon he said: “I was really impressed with this particular shot. I only had a few seconds to get that picture before being run down completely. It’s hard sometimes to find the perfect spot to place yourself but this worked really well and the dirt trail riding up from the bike wheels was a nice touch.”
The rock climbing shot, which was also taken at Dewerstone Rocks, took a lot of balance and bravery: “When you’re that high up from the ground, your hands and arms can sometimes turn to jelly so it can be difficult to steady your camera to get that shot the way you want it, but this is one of my favourites from that day.”
Malcolm is now sharing his skills with photography enthusiasts and athletes alike with a unique three-day adventure photography course, which runs from 8-11 May.
Students will have the opportunity and be given the skills they need to capture superb images of up and coming adventure sports athletes as they kayak, climb and mountain bike over Dartmoor’s breathtaking landscape.
Malcolm told Devon Life: “This course is designed to really get the best out of both worlds and take enthusiastic photographers and athletes out in the thick of an exhilarating environment and get them truly challenging themselves. It’s definitely not something for the faint hearted.”
Techniques in how to master lighting, composition, capturing fast moving objects and how to work in challenging environments are just a few things participant will learn over the three days. At the end of each day, students will return to accommodation at the Brimpts Far for a cooked meal and presentations from instructors and guest presenters who will share their experiences.
