Win family tickets to one of the biggest countryside extravaganzas in the country

Stylish fashion shows, delicious food from across the region and animals of all shapes and sizes are all part of the line up for this year’s annual countryside extravaganza, the Great Yorkshire Show.

The rural showcase will throw open its gates on Tuesday July 12th for three days, and as England’s premier agricultural event, the programme will be action packed, virtually from dawn ‘til dusk. More than 130,000 visitors are expected to attend what will be the 153rd show. Royalty have always been frequent visitors, including the Queen and the Prince of Wales, so we will have to see if the Great Yorkshire is included in this year’s royal diary!

The main ring is the heart of the show with non-stop action, from the pomp and circumstance provided by The Yorkshire Volunteers Band, to the elegance of the ladies side-saddle class and the impressive spectacle of the world famous cattle parade.

Look out for Lorenzo the Flying Frenchman who will be drawing gasps from the grandstand crowds with his impressive equestrian display and, on the final day, The Red Devils plan to sky dive into the main arena in support of the Help for Heroes charity.

For thousands of people, it is the competitive classes that are the focus of their day – with everything from cattle to cheese to Clydesdales. Hours and hours of preparation go into producing the immaculately turned out animals, many of which are already champions from other top shows. Who would think that olive oil, hair straighteners and shampoo would be useful aides in getting ready for the show ring!

Step into the food hall and you will be spoilt for choice with delicious goodies. Chutneys or cake? Speciality bread or beer? And this year sees the 10th anniversary of the popular Great Yorkshire cheese and dairy show. The county is famous for its wonderful cheeses, so do take a look at the magnificent displays. And of course, as sponsors, Yorkshire Life team will be found within the members area so do come and say hello.

The fashion shows are always popular and for the first time Hobbs will be presenting a sneak preview of its autumn winter range on the catwalk, so don’t miss it.
