A very successful fundraising event took place on Friday 18th March at the Manor House Hotel in Moreton-in-Marsh. In aid of the Acorns Children Hospice, the alternative Gold Cup day raised over a staggering 8,500.

The fabulous day organised by Cotswold Inns and Hotels kicked off with Champagne and canaps on arrival. A delicious three course lunch was served before live racing from Cheltenham Gold Cup day on the big screens. Guests were encouraged to bet in acorns ‘fun money’ (1 acorn = 1) and whoever had the most acorns after the race won prizes. Race prizes consisted of a 2 night stay at Pennyhill Park Hotel, cases of wine and Champagne, a race day experience at Silverstone and the overall prize - 2 tickets with Hospitality to the Hennessey Gold Cup and a night at the Vineyard at Stockross.

Afternoon tea was served as the racing continued followed by a raffle at the end of the day. With a flat screen television, digital camera, signed photo of AP McCoy, tickets to Warwick Races, 200 Johansens vouchers (to name a few) up for grabs, over 1,000 was raised in raffle ticket sales alone.

Nadine Linington, of Cotswold Inns and Hotels said that “Thanks to our suppliers and support from everyone on the day, we have raised 8,500 for Acorns Children’s Hospice. We had set our sights high and had aimed to raise 3,000 – to double that, and more, is incredible.”

Carole Crowe, community fundraiser for Acorns for the Three Counties, said: “This is a tremendous effort on the part of Cotswold Inns and Hotels.

“We rely on voluntary donations for the majority of the 6m plus needed every year to run our hospices. This will help us to continue to provide the vital care and support to local life limited children and their families.”

The day was such a success, plans are in place for next year! To register your interest, please call 01386 769100.

100% profits from the day have been donated to Acorns Children’s Hospice, three local hospices providing a comprehensive network of dedicated care to children and their families. Since opening their first hospice in 1988, Acorns have helped over 1500 families with children aged from birth to 19 years who have life limiting and life threatening conditions. Acorns offer a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week support service, short breaks, emergency and end of life care, all their services are provided completely free of charge. Cotswold Inns and Hotels would like to show their support to Acorns so they can continue to help the families who need and rely upon them. Visit www.acorns.org.uk for further information.
