13 March - A Beginners Guide to Raptors
10am-4pm. Visit the best site in the county to see raptors with Mike Russell, Sussex Wildlife Trust Senior Wildlife Advisor and Sussex Life columnist as your guide. The day begins with a fascinating illustrated talk about the behaviour, biology and habitats of birds of prey, focussed on the raptors seen in Sussex. After a packed lunch you will visit The Burgh on the Duke of Norfolk’s Estate in Burpham near Arundel.
Mike says: “If we are lucky we should see a variety of magnificent Sussex raptors, perhaps kestrel (below), sparrowhawk, peregrine, harrier, buzzard, or red kite soaring overhead. As an added bonus, there may be farmland birds such as corn bunting, skylark and grey partridge, and this is also a hotspot for brown hares.” No previous knowledge of raptors is needed, just a general interest in birds. Wild Woodies Spring Holiday Clubs
Sussex Wildlife Trust is running spring holiday clubs for children at various locations across the county from 30 March until 8 April. Parents can drop off their children aged 6-11 years for a supervised session to enjoy a range of exciting games and activities. Choose your Easter holiday fun from: egg rolling, egg hunting and woodland crafts; Minibeast Mahem with pond dipping and bug hunting; spring seed planting, or join the bushcraft den-making challenge.
Clubs will run at Woods Mill, Henfield; Seven Sisters Country Park, Eastbourne; Chesworth Farm, Horsham; Swallowtail Hill Farm, Beckley; and Stanmer Park, Brighton. Booking is essential.
