A summer charity ball was held at Thornton Hall Hotel and Spa, Wirral, in memory of Anthony Cope who lost his battle against cancer in December.

One of his daughters, Anna, told Cheshire Life: ‘Anthony’s Grand Summer Ball is not only a loving tribute to the most inspirational father, loving husband to my mother and dear friend to all, but it also raises awareness of Mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer which has devastated our lives and the lives of many others.’

Proceeds from the ball - £13,000 - will go to two charities, Wirral Hospice St John’s and Mesothelioma UK).

Over 200 guests enjoyed a red carpet arrival, a reception with fizz and a three course meal followed by live music from Tequila and an auction. Mark Jones from Radio City in Liverpool was compere for the evening.

Anna told Cheshire Life: ‘My dad was a young, healthy man with the biggest of hearts; he has left my mum, sister, brother and me behind. I am only 26 and feel there are so many memories I am going to miss out from having with my father.’
