Cheshire seemed to be the natural choice for Michael and Wendy Hough to open a veterinary practice, as they had both grown up here. Wendy lived in and around Wilmslow and even used to buy sweets in the former newsagents that occupied the building The Vets’ Place is now located in. Michael grew up on a dairy farm in Stretton and was an active member of the Stretton Young Farmers Association. Both Wendy and Michael were keen members of the Cheshire Hunt North Pony Club and represented England in different equestrian activities.

The pair also studied Veterinary Science at Liverpool University before going into practice in the UK. A desire to work overseas was fulfilled when Wendy was offered a post with the Hong Kong Jockey Club, hence they both moved to the Far East. Wendy worked with race and riding school horses and Michael worked for the SPCA, a charity involved with treating animals and welfare education. Wendy has a special interest in anaesthesia and pain management and also offers a Veterinary acupuncture service. Following their return to the UK, Wendy and Michael elected to open a clinic themselves and in November of 2009, The Vets’ Place veterinary clinic opened, following extensive refurbishment of an existing building. They are extremely proud of the team at The Vets’ Place and all are involved in ensuring that the patients receive the best treatment. The practice truly values and offers personal continuity of care.

When The Vets’ Place received the award for UK practice of the Year 2014 they were delighted and grateful to all those who made this possible and continue to support them. They feel privileged to have received this accolade and always strive to maintain the highest levels of care for their patients. The team aim to provide as complete a service as possible on a single site, have visiting consultants when necessary and endeavour to make themselves available whenever possible to offer support and advice as needed.
