Over £25,000 was raised for the Teenage and Young Adult ward at The Christie Hospital at a ball at the National Football Museum in Manchester.

Welcome drinks were enjoyed by 200 guests before dinner and entertainment from The Twentysomethings.

The occasion was organised by Jo Coutts, Andrea Yule and Diane Haddington. Jo’s son Sam, now 24, was diagnosed at the age of 20 with a malignant brain tumour and underwent treatment at the TYA. Sam, from Cheadle Hulme, is now well and was among the guests at the ball.

Jo said: ‘When Sam was at the TYA, a stranger donated a box at Old Trafford to the ward and we were lucky enough to go. It meant a lot to Sam that someone he had never met had thought to do that. Once he finished treatment, we said we would raise funds and do something similar and support the ward. We have been blessed with so much support and it was a fantastic evening.’
