Cirencester seeks sparkling sponsorship for its Diamond Jubilee celebrations

Cirencester’s Diamond Jubilee event team has appealed for urgent sponsorship from the business community to help pay for the planned sparkling June weekend.

Diamond businesses, who will be able to link in directly with the many opportunities for marketing, will be able to use the event’s brand - Cirencester Sparkles. Its development has been funded by one of Cirencester’s old businesses, Walter Bull & Son, the renowned jewellers in Dyer Street, Cirencester.

Owner Robert Gegg was also the first business supporter for the jubilee weekend, beginning on June 2 and culminating in a day of celebrations on June 4, including processions, a firework display, picnic in the Abbey Grounds, the last night of the Proms plus a whole host of special attractions.

Organising committee chairman, Shirley Alexander, says, “Cirencester Sparkles has the potential to be the biggest, best, most community-minded event ever staged in our town. We have huge aspirations - but modest funds and there is no way we can appeal to the local authorities when times are very hard.

“We appreciate this also applies to our business community, but sincerely believe an event which brings the town together has to be good for everyone, especially those companies seeking to raise their profiles.

Besides money we are seeking volunteers to help with crowd management, some of the planned events, and general support for a programme that has the potential to show Cirencester really does sparkle in the region.”

Marketing organiser Robin Thompson says, “For any company and its employees to be involved in an event as major as the Diamond Jubilee is a good team builder and provides a clear statement that they are a dedicated part of the community, its heritage and its growth.”

Sponsorship is required for the firework display, promenade concert, competitions - for example a Cirencester Sparkles shop windows event - equipment, staging. “Everyone involved on Shirley’s committee is willing give their time and expertise for nothing, for which we are deeply grateful,” says Robin.
