Clovelly have released their events for 2014, take a peek at the list below and take your pick from these great events.
Lentsherd

Lentsherd (pronounced “Lanshard”) is held on Shrove Tuesday and is an old Clovelly custom.
When dusk starts to fall, the participating children meet at the top of the cobbles with each one carrying a tin can attached to a long string. They then set off down-a-long the street, whooping and dragging their clattering cans behind them to the harbour where the cans are tied together and thrown into the sea (to be later retrieved).
The aim is to rid Clovelly of all the bad things from the previous year by chasing bad spirits away and driving the devil into the sea before Lent begins when everyone settles down to be good for forty days!
Funtastic Fudge Hunt

20 fudge stones will be hidden in the village each day. Find one and take it to the Fudge Shop at the Visitor Centre and discover how much fudge you have won.
If you find Number 20, you will get a whole kilo of fudge, made up of 8 different flavours - what a treat! And you can come back and try again. One stone redeemable per visiting family per day.
Clovelly celebration of local ales and cider

Enjoy a range of tasty local brews created with passion by small North Devon brewers at the Red Lion or New Inn. You’re bound to find a tipple to suit your palate and there’ll also be some live musical entertainment too. There will also be a selection of Devon wines, by the glass, at very special prices.

Clovelly Maritime Festival in aid of The N. D. Hospice
July 20, 2014
Starting at 10am, the day will be full of fun and cram-packed with a programme of all sorts of activities and entertainment for all ages.
There’ll be lively music, cookery demonstrations, crafty creations and family activities throughout the day.
Held in aid of the North Devon Hospice.
Young people (7-16 years) will have free entry if they come dressed as a pirate or a mermaid. Under 7s have free entry anyway, but are encouraged to come dressed up too.
Standard admission charges to Clovelly include all entertainment.
Woolsery Agricultural Show
July 28, 2014
Summer in North Devon would not be complete without a visit to this ever popular show.
Classes include crafts, cattle and sheep, together with horse and pony competitions. There will be a display of vintage farm machinery, hounds and the Young Farmers’ “It’s a knockout”. You’ll find bustling trade stalls offering locally made crafts and food with fairground rides and a bouncy castle for the children.
Lifeboat Weekend
August 02, 2014 to August 03, 2014
Held in aid of the RNLI, it is a popular celebration of the Clovelly Lifeboat, Spirit of Clovelly. The Lifeboat House will be open both days to the public.
On Saturday afternoon there will be a sponsored swim from Bucks Mills to Clovelly, followed by a barbecue. Sunday will be a fun-packed family day with games, competitions, entertainment, food & drink and music. There will be a coconut shy, a tug of war, local stalls and children’s activities. To finish the day, “Spirit of Clovelly” will be launched for a demonstration by our volunteer crew. In the evening, there will be a curry and quiz, and live music.
Lobster and Crab Feast

A day to pay tribute to Clovelly’s famous lobsters and crabs with live folk music, quay kitchens, beer tasting, prize draw, arts and crafts stalls and cookery demonstrations. For the children there’s street theatre, N. Devon Biosphere/IFCA marine ‘show and tell’ activities, walkabout magic, balloon modelling, and more.
The Red Lion Harbour restaurant will be offering delicious lobster and crab platters, each with a complimentary glass of bubbly.
In aid of the National Lobster Hatchery, Padstow, who will bring along a tank of baby lobsters, to be later released into the sea.
Standard admission charges include all entertainment.
Clovelly Herring Festival

Clovelly was once a major centre for herring fishing and the annual Herring Festival is held to promote these tasty, nutritious ‘Silver Darlings’ and support carefully managed fishing as carried out by local fishermen.
Maritime historian and writer, Mike Smylie, will return with his ‘Kipperland’ exhibition, which is devoted to the history of the herring. He will also be turning herring into delicious and delicate-tasting kippers and bloaters in his smokehouse.
There will also be net making, flax processing and a curragh on show provided by ‘Flaxland’.
There’ll be a wide variety of herring dishes in the quay kitchens, cookery demonstrations, live shanty singers, street entertainment, and more.
