The South West is due to have 246,000 people working in the construction industry in 2019 according to predictions from the Construction Industry Training Board.

That is a growth in construction-based employment of 1.9% a year; well above the UK predicted overall employment growth which is 1.5%

The construction industry in the UK is booming, according to Gloucester-based UK Construction Recruitment. The specialist recruitment company has just opened at 103 Southgate Street near Gloucester city centre to increase its high street presence. Roger Bristow, Manager at UK Construction Recruitment said: “It is a very busy time for us, and with the new office we are seeing more walk-ins seeking construction-based employment.”

The South West is an area notorious for its need for skilled workers as both the strong construction industry and the growing engineering manufacturing sector fish from the same pool. The main driving force behind the construction industries rapid growth in the South West is the rise in new housing projects and the continuous need for repair and maintenance of these, but the development at Hinkley Point, at which construction work is due to start on this year, will kick it up a notch further.
