Staff at a motor dealership on Pennywell Road in Bristol have chosen their ‘Charity of the Year’.
Wessex Garages has selected Penny Brohn Cancer Care, which provides help for people with cancer and their friends and families, as its Charity of the Year for 2013.
Emma Smith, Corporate & Community Fund Raiser at Penny Brohn Cancer Care, said: “We are thrilled to receive the support of Wessex Garages on Pennywell Road.
“Being diagnosed with cancer or being told your cancer has returned can be a traumatic and life-changing event. People often describe feeling shocked, disorientated, angry, frustrated, scared, isolated, in need of support and often unsure what to do for the best.
“The support that Wessex Garages will provide us with will help to fund our services and provide aid for people with cancer.”
Penny Brohn Cancer Care has been helping cancer sufferers and their close friends and relatives since 1980. Its work, known as the ‘Bristol Approach’, combines physical, emotional and spiritual support designed to help sufferers live well with the impact of cancer at any stage of the illness.
Emma continued: “We believe that everyone affected by cancer should be able to access life changing complementary cancer care. Our support is offered through a combination of residential and single day courses, one-to-one appointments, providing a dedicated helpline staffed by trained volunteers and community-based support groups.”
Wessex Garages will be doing a variety of fundraising events for the charity throughout the year, such as charity cycle rides and golf days.

“This is the first time we have supported the charity and we look forward to raising funds to help the cancer sufferers and their close family and friends throughout 2013.”
