Former footballers swapped the pitch for a golf course for a charity game at The Mere Golf Resort and Spa, Knutsford.

Former Manchester United star Lee Sharpe and ex-Liverpool player Dean Saunders were among 100 players in 25 teams at the golf day which raised £20,000 for Action for A-T (Ataxia-Telangiectasia). Hosted by Sky Sports pundit Alan McInally, the money raised will go towards creating awareness and finding a cure for the degenerative brain condition that affects young children.

Organiser James Osborne, who attened university with Action for A-T founder, Toby Read, said: ‘It was a really good day. We were blessed with great weather and managed to smash my inital target of £10,000 with amazing support on the day. Everyone is up for doing it again next year.’
