Sometimes the reality of Christmas isn’t quite as rosy as the television adverts would have us all believe. If you need some inspiration about making your Christmas Day more enjoyable, take a look at the festive community events Devon has to offer.

Go To A Church Service

Join Exeter Cathedral for a number of services:

Thursday 24th December: Crib Service for Children 12pm, Grandisson: A Service of Lessons and Carols at 6pm, and Midnight Mass at 11.30pm

On Christmas Day: Holy Communion at 8am, Sung Eucharist at 10am, Choral Mattins at 11.30am and the Choral Evensong with Carols at 4pm

Saturday 26th December: St Stephen’s Day the Solemn Eucharist at 11.30am

Crediton Parish Church are holding a Sung Eucharist at 10am on 25 December.

Tavistock Parish Church have Morning and Evening Prayer at 8am and 5pm on 25 December

The parishes of Wolborough and Ogwell in Newton Abbot have services at 9.15am at St Mary’s, and a Christmas Family Service at 10.45am, followed by Holy Communion at St Paul’s. Both on 25 December.

Jump in the Sea!

Come and watch (or jump right in!) at the Torquay Boxing Day Dip! On 26 December the No. 200 (Torquay) Squadron Air Training Corps are taking part in a sea swim for charity at Corbyn Head and welcome spectators and supporters! More info and pictures at englishriviera.co.uk/whats-on/boxing-day-dip

Thousands of people gather every year on Christmas Day in Exmouth and many are brave enough to take the plunge and go for a swim in the waters just of Exmouth beach. The Exmouth Seafront Webcam can give you a sneak peak, or come and watch for yourself!

Sidmouth Boxing Day Swim takes place at the Esplanade at 11am, come and watch them plunge into the cold!

And if you fancy more of a stroll than a swim into the sea, the annual event in Paignton could be for you! Fancy dress is fully encouraged and the swimmer with the best costume will take home the coveted trophy! The swim is at 12.00 by the pier.

Go on a Christmas Cruise!
