This elegant black tie dinner at Wallasey Golf Club was one of several occasions that have been organised to raise money for the ‘Dome of Home’.

Fund-raising projects are underway to repair and restore this historic listed building on the Wirral. Known as the ‘Dome of Home’ to returning sailors because it is a recognisable beacon approaching the port of Liverpool, the Roman Catholic Church of Saints Peter, Paul and Philomena stands atop a rocky promontory in New Brighton.

The Church was closed in 2008 because of the need for repairs and the costs involved. However, thanks to a new Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Mark Davies, and the interest of a religious order based in France, the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, the Church was reopened by the Bishop in March 2012, with a staggering attendance of over 1,000 people.

The black tie dinner was well-attended, the guests included the Mayor and Lady Mayoress, and visiting priests, one being Canon Hudson of the ICKSP who came over from Belgium.

The church is the only one in England that still celebrates Masses and services exclusively in the traditional Latin rite.
