The ballroom of the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool was the setting for a celebration of the centenary of the WI by members from the Wirral.

Around 260 women enjoyed an afternoon tea followed by a talk from special guest, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside Dame Lorna Muirhead DBE. Entertainment was provided by Malcolm Hogarth who played a selection of songs on the keyboard. The event was co-ordinated by WI members Bernice Burgess, Ada Lewis and Sylvia Casement.

Ada Lewis, president of Leasowe WI branch, said: ‘It’s been a very busy year celebrating 100 years of the WI. The afternoon at the Adelphi was super and we were thrilled to bits. Dame Lorna Muirhead was a most entertaining speaker. Everyone said she was fantastic.’
