New research by Blacks has revealed the towns and cities with the most parks per 100,000 people in the UK as part of their search to find the most active city in the country. 

York tops the list as the best place for accessibility to parks, boasting a total of 15 green spaces.

The Yorkshire city has some iconic parks and open spaces that are enjoyed by millions of tourists and local residents every year.

Dean’s Park, located in the shadow of York’s iconic cathedral is one of the city best-loved urban green spaces, offering magnificent views of the Minster

The ten-acre Museum Gardens, surrounding Yorkshire Museum, stretches from the River Ouse to York Art Gallery and from Marygate to Museum Street.

In second place, Norwich actually has more parks than York in total, but taking into account the population of the city, the 18 Norwich parks equate to 8.44 for every 100,000 people in the city.

Chapelfield Gardens in the heart of the city is just a short walk away from the famous Norwich Market and hosts many events during the summer months.

Further afield, Eaton Park was opened in 1928 and is listed by English Heritage as of special historical interest, it is one of a series of beautiful Norwich parks, created with government funding after the end of the First World War.

Other parks across the city include; Heigham Park, Wensum Park, Jubilee Park, Lakenham Recreation Ground, Sloughbottom Park, Woodrow Pilling Park and Mile Cross Gardens.

Staying in East Anglia, Ipswich completes the top three, offering plenty of access to green spaces to its residents and visitors, with 15 parks in total, there are 8.39 for every 100,000 people.

The largest and arguably most famous park in Ipwich is Christchurch Park, on the northern edge of the town centre that spans around 80 acres. 

While on the banks the the River Orwell, the Orwell Country Park contains a multitude of flora and fauna with spectacular views across the Orwell estuary.
