We asked you on Twitter and Facebook where to go for a pie in Norfolk and we’ve rounded up some of the best

Walsingham Farm Shop

With two farm shops (one in Little Walsingham and one at Norfolk Lavender, Heacham) and a market stall on Norwich Market, Walsingham Farm Shop is a Norfolk staple that champions local produce.

Its pies are packed with meats from the farm shop’s butchery and local vegetables and come in tempting flavours such as chicken and ham hock and steak and kidney.

Diss Pie & Mash Shop

For fans of traditional London pie and mash, Diss Pie & Mash Shop will be your new go-to. After being enthusiastically welcomed by the people of Diss in late 2018, this has become a firm favourite for lovers of the cockney classic.

Expect daily changing pie flavours with everything from pulled pork to chicken and mushroom or a sweet apple and blueberry crumble with custard. Make sure to get all the traditional trimmings for the savoury pies including liquor and jellied eels.

The Rumsey Wells, Norwich

This casual pub in Norwich is a relaxed place to enjoy local beers and live music which is a frequent fixture here. Keep an eye on the events page on the website to catch a party or live music evening. Apart from music, it’s clear from online reviews that pies are a firm favourite.

Pie Minister pies in a variety of flavours (beef steak with stilton, venison with bacon, red wine and green lentil and a vegetarian goats’ cheese with sweet potato, spinach and red onion are among the flavours) are served hot with mash, peas and gravy. These are obviously great with a glass of real ale.

The Mushy Pea Stall, Norwich Market

A staple of the Norwich Market food scene is The Mushy Pea Stall which has been serving the same peas since 1949. Customers rave about peas which are served with mint sauce and with (or without) a pie.

They must be quite good: celebrities such as Freddie Flintoff and Ainsley Harriott seem to enjoy them.

Goodies Food Hall, Diss

Owner and founder of Goodies Food Hall is its namesake Stuart Gooderham, who came from humble beginnings selling sacks of potatoes. Now his food hall consists of a café restaurant, deli, cheese counter and the whole place brims with fresh, local produce.

Bake goods are made from scratch and served ready to take home for cooking. They include handmade pies packed with a variety of fillings from game to traditional pork pies.

Three Horseshoes, Warham

One of our favourite cosy pubs, the Three Horseshoes in the village of Warham is a tranquil retreat to escape to for a few pints. It has retained many original features including its Norfolk clay tile floors.

Pies are a big feature on the menu and come with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Expect fillings including the creamy chicken, tarragon and bacon with puff pastry and a parsley liquor or Mrs Temple’s triple cheese pie layered with spinach and apple.

The Ffolkes, King’s Lynn

The Ffolkes in the village of Hillington just outside King’s Lynn is a 300-year old coaching inn with stylish and creatively decorated rooms. Its attractive flint exterior promises a cosy interior that does not disappoint and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a pie.

Pies are made from scratch with shortcrust pastry and packed with locally sourced meat and vegetables. Try a mixed game pie with horseradish and juniper gravy or a creamy fish pie with smoked salmon, white fish and crayfish and a mashed potato top. Pies come with your choice of potatoes, vegetables and gravy. For a feast, try piggy in the middle, a shortcrust pastry pie with pork shoulder, cider and apple gravy, stuffing top, pigs in blankets, mustard mash, cabbage and gravy. This one’s recommended to share between two.

Flaming Galah – The Aussie Pie Stop, Norwich

This is a pie shop with a difference. Flaming Galah on Norwich’s Ber Street sells Australia-themed pies in a host of flavours and often with inventive daily specials. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for information on the latest flavours.

Past pie specials have included a Burns Night pie with layers of haggis, chicken breast and bacon on a bed of swede and carrot mash drizzled with a creamy Scotch whisky, chive and black pepper sauce.
