Down here in Cornwall, the vegan and vegetarian offering seems to be improving by the month. We pick some of the best restaurants and cafes for vegans and vegetarians in Cornwall.

1. The Cornish Vegan, Truro

Set up by couple Dawn and Paul, The Cornish Vegan is a café/restaurant in Truro inspired by a lack of decent vegan places to eat in the area. Despite the name, this cosy café is designed to entice and excite both vegans and non-vegans alike and the menu does not disappoint.

Options include ‘The Cornish Vegan Buddha Bowl’; lentil, mushroom and walnut burgers; lasagnes, curries and stews. Also worth shouting about is the delicious vegan cream tea served with two scones, jam and coconut cream.

2. The Bean Inn, Carbis Bay

You can find this vegan gem on the outskirts of St Ives on the ground floor of the Coast B&B. Every single one of the dishes served here are vegan (even the drinks), and the menu has been approved by the Vegetarian Society.

There are usually four starters and four mains to choose from with an ever-changing menu of old favourites and new inventive dishes. Sit back in this candlelit restaurant and tuck into vegetable paellas, potato cakes, chickpea casseroles and much more.

3. Olive & Co, Liskeard

Whilst Olive & Co is not strictly a vegan/vegetarian café, there are loads of tasty options available for vegans and vegetarians alike. We like the sound of the hummus with toasted flatbreads and Dukkah and the vegan version of the Nachos Grande with pea guacamole, salsa and smoky chipotle beans.

The café is dog-friendly and has a laid-back Sunday morning vibe, perfect for breakfast or a relaxed lunch. Olive & Co were our winners of the Best Coffee and Tea Shop in the Cornwall Life Food & Drink Awards 2018!

4. The Cornish Pizza Company, St Agnes

The Cornish Pizza Company epitomises everything wonderful about Cornwall. From the olives and salt used on the pizzas, to the ale and cider served behind the bar, almost everything here is local. Not only does The Cornish Pizza Company have an ethical environmental policy (which you can read on the website), they’re also a ‘Final Straw Business’ which is part of a campaign to keep Cornwall’s seas plastic free.

Now let’s talk food. There are lots of vegetarian options on the menu – we’ve had the ‘Wheal Alfred’ with crumbled goats cheese, sun dried tomatoes, black olives and onion marmalade and can confirm it was delicious. There is also a vegan and lactose-free pizza on the menu named the ‘Wheal Charlotte’.

5. Twisted Currant, Porthleven

Similarly to Olive & Co, the Twisted Currant is not a vegan café, however they do have a growing number of really nice options suitable for vegans which is an area where many places can struggle.

From soups and sarnies, to cakes and scones, there are plenty of tempting treats for vegans to indulge in. Our favourite sweet treat is the coconut and cherry cake.

6. The Stable, Falmouth and Fistral Beach

The popular pizza joint established a vegan menu a couple of years ago following a high demand for vegan options from diners and it has been a huge hit from the very start. Both the Fistral Beach and Falmouth restaurants have four pizzas, two salads and a side of vegan garlic bread to choose from.

We love a bit of spice and the Bute Island Blazer is just the treat. This vegan options has roasted red peppers, fresh red chilli, onions, basil and mushrooms and loads of stringy vegan mozzarella.
