Chris and Zoe Hipwell leave California for the delightful Derbyshire Dales
Hodgkinson’s Hotel in Matlock Bath is now under the ownership of husband and wife team Chris and Zoe Hipwell. The couple recently returned home to the UK after living in California for over 20 years, and opted for a complete lifestyle change when they spotted the Grade II listed Georgian townhouse up for sale.
‘We love the warmth of the hotel and our guests comment on it feeling like a “home from home”, which is a huge compliment for us,’ they said. ‘We don’t plan on making any changes to the overall atmosphere or to the details that have been part of the place for years or have been painstakingly restored.’ Zoe and Chris hope to increase awareness of the hotel as an ideal place for group travellers, and also wish to encourage visits to the intimate 20-seater restaurant, which remains under the direction of chef Colin Smith and is open to both guests and the general public.
