Norwich-based popular snack brand Metcalfe’s has raised more than £100,000 through popcorn sales for partner charity CLIC Sargent

Norwich-based popular snack brand Metcalfe's has raised more than £100,000 through popcorn sales for partner charity CLIC Sargent, the UK's leading cancer charity for children and young people.

Metcalfe's began supporting CLIC Sargent in 2014 and pledged to raise £30,000 for the charity. For each pack of sea salt flavour popcorn sold, a donation is made to help the charity provide practical, financial and emotional support to children and young people with cancer, and their families.

By raising £100,000 for the charity, Metcalfe's has helped fund CLIC Sargent social workers and Homes from Home for families, making it possible to support young cancer patients like Anna Stark. At the age of just 20 years, university student Anna Stark was first diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in June 2017. Anna said: "Being diagnosed with cancer made me feel defenceless and like what was left of my independence was being taken away from me. I was facing an uncertain future and didn't know what to do next."

During this difficult time, Anna received support from a CLIC Sargent social worker. She also became a member of the CLIC Sargent Young Person Reference Group, which gives young people a chance to meet and provide support to those who have had similar experiences.

"Without the group and CLIC Sargent, I would've been lost during and after treatment. I just want to say thank you to Metcalfe's, as its fundraising and support has enabled me to do all the stuff with CLIC Sargent, which has made a massive difference to my life. CLIC Sargent's help has supported me in so many ways; I don't know how I would have been able to move on without it."
