Homeowners in Ashbourne may be sitting on a potential goldmine, according to holidaylettings.co.uk, a TripAdvisor company. The Derbyshire town features third in a list of UK destinations with top-rated holiday rentals. The study is based on the reviews left by holidaymakers over the last two years, with at least 50 reviews being the criteria for each location to qualify. Ashbourne has made it to this list with an average review score of 4.95 out of 5, making it one of the most popular holiday spots in the UK for a holiday rental. It was topped only by Carnforth in the Lake District which scored 4.96 and Lytham St Anne’s which also scored 4.96. Also in the top 15 were Beadnell, Lyme Regis, Bourton-on-the-Water, Broadway, Troutbeck, Broadstairs and Lymington for England, Aberfeldy and Fort William for Scotland and Betws-y-Coed, Conwy, and Trearddur Bay in Wales.

Jack Johnson of holidaylettings.co.uk said that in the last few years there’s been a noticeable change in the places where British people are choosing to go on holiday. Recent trends suggest that around a third of UK holidaymakers now stay within the British Isles for their main holiday, while short breaks and getaways continue to be as popular as ever. ‘Now more people than ever are choosing to stay within the UK for their main holiday, rather than visiting traditional hotspots on the continent,’ said Jack. ‘Staying within the UK means that you get to explore the many great places on our doorstep, at prices that will really surprise you. And homeowners in the area could capitalise on this trend by renting out their homes to others while they travel themselves. With demand for UK holiday homes at an all-time high, homeowners are starting to see the value of renting out their home while they are away themselves,’ Jack explains. ‘Listing your home is simple and hassle-free – and if you choose the free to list option it costs you nothing until you receive your first booking.’ Ashbourne is described on the site as, ‘A very picturesque market town on the southern tip of the Peak District. In recent years, it has emerged as a popular alternative to nearby Matlock and Buxton, due to its quaint surroundings and rural setting. If you’re ever in town on a Thursday or Saturday, enjoy browsing Ashbourne’s charming farmers’ market.’ For more information visit www.tripadvisor.com/rentals.
